Nowadays, even the most qualified and well-trained professionals in construction and other fields fail to obtain jobs in prominent companies, thanks to the tough competition within the market. This doesn't mean that you should down tools when searching for a great job.

The solution to your problems is simple: join a Health and Safety Course in order to get the certification and skills that are in demand within the construction industry.

This will allow you to gain a higher level CSCS card, something which employers definitely want from their employees.

Actual test is in English however available languages using headphones are: Bulgarian, Czech, German, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian and Welsh.


How do I apply for a CSCS Test and obtain a CSCS Card?

JD Training Essex will help you with the CSCS test process by booking you an appointment at our Test Centre.

Tests slots are available Monday – Friday and Saturday mornings at our Test Centre so you can take your CSCS Test as soon as possible subject to availability.


Who will take the test?

The test is intended to make sure essential knowledge of health, safety and environment matters among workers on building sites. Construction workers wanting to apply for a CSCS card will need to have taken the test within the previous two years, with exceptions for those who have studied and achieved a relevant NVQ or SVQ in the same period.


What does the Health Safety and Environment test involve?

The test is a multiple choice questionnaire which is usually taken online. Forty-five (45) minutes are allowed to complete the 50 questions and those wishing to acquire a CSCS card will need to get 47 out of the 50 correct.

The test includes 12 behavioural case study questions about behaviour on a building site and 38 knowledge questions. The knowledge questions include 6 specialist questions for the Specialist and Managers and Professionals test.

 

The three available tests are as follows:

1. The Operative Test

Operative Test which focuses on health, safety, environment, high risk activities, legal aspects and management. These includes behavioural case study questions and questions on these five core knowledge areas:

  • Legal and management
  • Health and welfare
  • General safety
  • High risk activities
  • Environment

 

2. The Operative Test for Labourers with L1 Award

3. Specialist Test

Specialist Test which is made up of multiple choice questions and case studies. You will need to choose and answer specialist knowledge questions on certain subjects. This includes the behavioural case study questions, the core knowledge areas and questions from one of the following specialisms:

  • Supervisory
  • Demolition
  • Plumbing or gas
  • Highway works
  • Specialist work at height
  • Lifts and escalators
  • Tunneling
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
  • Heating and plumbing services
  • HVAC Pipe fitting and welding
  • HVAC Duct work
  • HVAC Refrigeration and air conditioning
  • HVAC Services and facilities maintenance

 

4. Managers and Professionals Test

Managers and Professionals Test along with multiple choice questions and case studies, you will need to answer specialist knowledge questions on their appropriate subject. This includes the behavioural case study questions, five core knowledge sections and relevant specialist knowledge questions in the following activities:

  • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Demolition
  • Plumbing or gas
  • Highway works
